The company is headquartered in Willemstad, Curaçao. ==History== The Maduro Group traces its roots to S.E.L. Maduro & Sons, a shipping and trading company founded in 1837 that began by operating regional schooners, eventually reaching as far as New York. By 1918, Curaçao's stable government, its proximity to the Maracaibo Basin, a deep natural harbour and the opening of the Panama Canal caused Royal Dutch Shell to build the Refinería Isla, one of the largest refiners in the Western Hemisphere. During World War II, Willemstad became a top ten harbor globally in tonnage handled, serving as the only port of call for tankers transporting aviation fuel to the Allies in Northern Africa and Great Britain. During this time, George Maduro, a war hero, fought and died for the Netherlands against Nazi occupation forces.
